Karratha Primary School is proud of its tradition of meeting the educational needs of Karratha students for over three decades, through a strong focus on maintaining standards of academic and athletic excellence.
Karratha Primary School is a public school that provides educational services for children from Kindergarten through to Year 7.
The school has an enrolment of approximately 363 students comprising of 38 Kindergarten children, 42 pre-primary children and 283 primary students. It operates two Kindergarten classes, two Pre-Primary class and 12 classes from Year 1 to Year 7.
Karratha Primary School was the first primary school in Karratha. Building of the school commenced in 1970 and opened in 1971 as Karratha Junior High School. The school was originally built by Hamersley Iron Pty Ltd in conjunction with the Education Department to provide the newly established town with education facilities for the increasing number of families moving into the area.
In 2009 - 2010, a new school was constructed on land adjoining the existing school. The 2011 school year commenced in the new buildings that feature state of the art design, classrooms, technologies, gardens and associated art work. There are 23 teaching areas in the new school - 3 early childhood rooms, 13 classrooms, 4 educational support class rooms, specialist art and music rooms and a library resource centre.
