John Hunter Hospital School is a single classroom school located in the John Hunter Children’s Hospital. As a school for specific purpose, our aim is to meet the educational needs of school aged children and young people who are admitted to hospital as patients.  Siblings may also attend the children’s hospital when prior arrangements are made with the school principal. Educational programs are offered to students’ both on the hospital wards and in the classroom. The school caters for students from both government and non-government schools. John Hunter Hospital School is a unique educational environment with a transient and unpredictable enrolment. The school provides a meaningful service to students who are recovering from illness, accident or psychosocial admission. Continuity of education is maintained through communication and co-operation with census schools. The school works in partnership with multidisciplinary teams to provide support to students during hospitalisation and throughout the transition period whilst students return to their education settings.
